Wet Crawl Space
When this area of the home isn’t sealed off, or “encapsulated,” moisture from the soil when it rains or when there is melting snow will be able to get inside and cause problems. Moisture here is not something you want as it can be very damaging to wooden materials, including support beams, floor joists, and posts. Also, when this wood starts to deteriorate, it will be attractive to unwanted critters, such as termites and roaches.
Crawl Space Problems
Warning Signs of Too Much Moisture
If you notice any of the following, then there is a problem that will need to be looked at immediately:
- Floors feel un-level or as if they are sagging in spots
- Living quarters of the home smell musty (mold growth)
- Water can be seen pooling up next to the footing outside of the home
- With a visual inspection of the space, you can see noticeable rot on wooden materials or flooding
Encapsulation
To take care of the problem, St. Louis Basement Pros can seal the space off from the outside environment. This will involve the use of crawl space Encapsulation products, which includes: vapor barriers, floor liners, sump pumps, and dehumidifiers. This will help to prevent seepage from getting inside and causing problems. Also, it will put a stop to dangerous mold and bacteria growth.
Testimonials
Basement waterproofing, leaky basement issue
This is Vincent in Chesterfield and I wanted to say “thanks” for making peace in our household. For the past 5 years I have been putting all kinds of short term bandaids on our water intrusion issue in the basement….we finally went ahead and install the drain tile and sump as your team recommended.
After all this time I finally have no worries when I hear it starting to rain. Just this past week our rain gauge showed almost 3″ in about 5 hours – not a drop of water in the basement or crawl space.
Excellent work and again thank you….
Basement Waterproofing
We live in a house with a full basement that was built in 1915. The house has three full stories. We had noticed a new plaster crack in the second story and wanted to be sure the foundation was stable. The representative came, looked at the foundation and basement, and pointed out a few things we could do ourselves to keep the foundation area dryer. He also told us that the plaster crack was caused by settling from the weight of the house on the support beams in the basement (not basement walls). He explained what they could do to improve the support system in the basement and gave us a quote if we wanted to do the work, but was honest enough to tell us that the house was very stable in its present condition, which is what we really wanted to know.
Basement Waterproofing
I recently called just to get some general information about the company and was thrilled to find the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Even though I haven’t scheduled any work to be done yet, they are at the top of my list. After asking around town and checking out other reviews, I’m confident to say they will be getting my business!!
